Family Vacation: Chicago Edition

We continued north and made it to Chicago!  I'm not sure who was more excited about this trip- my girls or my Dad.  Chicago is a place that is near and dear to our family.  My dad, being from Wisconsin, would come to Chicago often.  This is also the place where my parents met at college!  They began their life together here, lived here for many years and returned to live here with me for a bit.  We came back many times as a family for vacations and Carrie and Bobby even got engaged here!  See?  It's a very special place for us all.  We have all been waiting to share our favorite city with the girls.  My Dad was especially.

After a looooong time spent in the car we finally arrived.  Dad found us the perfect apartment for us to all stay in together.  It was awesome!  The floor to ceiling windows looking out on downtown were perfect.  And the weather was amazing.  In June, those 60 degree temps and no humidity were a lovely break from our Mississippi summer!  We began our first day at the aquarium which is one of our favorites!

Ready to take on Shedd Aquarium

Lots of quality time with the penguins

 We loved the show!

The next day we made our first stop at the Willis Tower.  It has been a long time since I've been up there (it was still called the Sears Tower) and they now have these plexiglass boxes coming out from the building.  The girls and I thought these were cool, but we learned Jeff did not like them!  We had such a clear day that we could see for miles.  After that we headed to the Field Museum of Natural History where we saw Sue the dinosaur!  After a quick rest and change we got dressed up to have dinner and to see Aladdin!  The girls were so excited about this and it really was a great show that we all enjoyed.  Late that night Carrie and Bobby made it to town to join us!

No, I'm not pregnant.  This is just an unfortunate placement of Jeff's hand!

On Wednesday we split up our group.  The girls made a trip to the American Girl store to have lunch and shop while the boys (and Carrie) went to play and eat at Top Golf.  I can't imagine why Carrie wouldn't want to spend 3 hours shopping with us!  Mom and I were worn out but my goodness the girls had fun.  They each brought their dolls with them to join us for lunch.  After our excursions we met up with everyone to take some family pictures.  For Christmas, we gave Mom a gift certificate for family pictures to be made in downtown Chicago.  And my goodness they turned out exactly how we wanted!  Up next was a yummy dinner!

The four of us took a bike taxi to dinner while the others walked

Thursday was maybe my favorite day.  We did something I have never done in all my trips to Chicago.  We took an architecture tour by boat!  It was awesome and we had the perfect weather for it too.  Once we got off the boat, we took the train to Dad's favorite part of the trip- Wrigley Field!  He was so very proud to take the girls to his favorite spot in the world.  Even though we couldn't get the Cubs a win, we still had a great time at the ball park.  For dinner that night the Morreale family made their way downtown to join us for dinner!  The perfect ending to the day.

Friday was our last full day so we began at the Adler Planetarium.  We had big fun looking at the stars and they had a great kids area that I had to bribe the girls to leave with the promise of lunch.  Ha!  After that we went to the Museum of Science and Industry.  This was Bobby's favorite!  We almost lost him in it.  We could have all spent an entire day there because there was so much to see.  It was the perfect way to end our trip.
 Time to see the stars
 But first, look over there!
 Sweet girls
 Planetarium fun
 Science and Industry time
 Love them
They could have stayed here all day watching the chicks hatch

 We even made a toy!

This is how I found her on our last day.  Don't worry sweet girl, we will be back soon.
